As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships--but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.
That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding... six-pack abs.
Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope. (link)
Review: 4/5
Of course I liked this book, have you even read any of my other STEMinist reviews?? You know by now my thoughts on the STEMinist novels, so I’ll make this quick.
Here are the reasons I loved it:
Asshole main man (who is a sweety to only the main girl)
Who is also TALL and STRONG
Tall, dark, and handsome
Professor who has things he works for…
Forced proximity
Fake dating
Relatable young woman character
(relatable because she’s a dumbass)
He protects her
He BELIEVES HER when shit gets crazy
He has always loved her… duh.
And once again, the only thing bringing me off the Love Hypothesis Cloud 9 is the miscommunication/lying trope. But if there’s anything we know about the STEMinist novels, it’s that they’re all the same. And so all these points are the same. And so is the playlist. Sorry this review is so short, I can’t conjure more thoughts after reading basically the same book 4 times.
P.S. I just found out Ali Hazelwood (the author of the STEMinist books) started writing by writing Reylo fanfic… so most of her main male characters resemble Adam Driver as Kylo Ren… Oh baby… now I like it even more!
